wireless speed vs Wired Speed

Hi all, I have a brand new Linksys WRT54G router and a new Dell Inspiron 5150 with a TM1300 wireless b/g card. When I goto speed tests, i get almost 3 mbs for my wired and when I try the wireless I get like 1.2 to 1.5 mps? I have Excellent signal strenth. Is this normal for wireless?? Thank you for any help..

Ok here we go I did all these tests, here are the results..

I got the download test speeds here http://www.dslreports.com/stest

Desktop speed Wired to router
d/l = 2681kbps
u/l = 341kbps

laptop speeds wireless
d/l = 1324kbps
u/l = 349kbps

laptop no security wireless
d/l = 1331kbps
u/l = 348kbps

laptop wired to router
d/l = 1470kbps
u/l = 334kbps

I am boggled as to why its still slow even wired, no firewall is enabled on xp.. i hav not tweaked eather the desktop or laptop.. Please Help!!! Thanks

Your laptop looks to be pretty consistent whether wired or wireless.  There is a tweaking tool within that site called Dr TCP/IP and it does a decent job of making recommendations concerning MTU (Maximum Transmission Units).
