Replacing master unit from a stack

Hello,

I own 2 N4032 units configured as stack.

I'm about to replace the master unit with a new one.

I already restored all configuration to the new switch same as the one I'm going to replace.

I would like to understand what is the best procedure for this kind of process.

Do I need to power off both units before I proceed?

Can I just plug out the switch and put the new one and connect the stack cable?

Do i have to reload the slave switch?

Thank you

Hello,

You will probably want to download and get familiar with the N4000 stacking guide in the below link that discusses removing and adding switches.  Is the current master causing some sort of problem and needs to be replaced, or is it currently working as expected?  If not working correctly, turning it off will automatically make the stack standby the master.  You should not need to power off any other switches in the stack.  Know that any devices that are ONLY connected to the existing master will become disconnected from the virtual switch.  LAG connected devices going to two or more stack members should stay online, though throughput may be degraded.

You may also want to consider adding the new switch as a stack member, and make it the standby,  allowing you to force a failover to make it the new master using the instructions in the document.

Hope this helps!
