HL-DT-ST DVD-ROM GDR81622B will not open or eject my disk.

Its reading the disk that is stuck perfectly and makes all the correct noises as far as sounding like it is trying to open.  I have tried inserting the paper clip into the tiny hole in the front and get the same results.  I have tried to find updated drivers with little success.  The drive attempts to open and then begins playing the DVD that is on the inside.  What could this be?  What can I do?

Hello,

I don't mean to sound flippant, but from what you describe the drive is broken.

No driver or update will help in opening the drive. You already tried the last resort of using the paper clip. I suggest that you buy a new drive, and break open the cover to get your DVD out.

That is of course, unless it's still covered under warranty.

I do appreciate the response.  I am just surprised it just breaks down out of nowhere without any stress or misuse.  It was reading the disc inside perfectly.  It is 4 or 5 years old and I did not know the average usage life on these things.  I'll just breakdown and buy a new one.

Thanks

Bryan
