Numbers instead of letters - Inspiron 1501

Our family laptop is an Inspiron 1501.  On my own and my husbands accounts we are able to type letters as per the normal keyboard, however when daughter using laptop she gets numbers instead of letters!  Why?  Can this be fixed?  We are finding it quite frustrating!  Any help would be appreciated.
