WMC Remote Control Wizard for TV
I have been trying to find this wizard again in Windows Media for a few months. I first used it to teach my remote for the TV use with my dell remote and IR at the time I config. my cable receiver to my computer. Number two button misreads as #one button instead. Please help me find it again to correct.

I looked at my Media Center (I have Vista Home Premium) and didn't see any option for a remove. That must have been a driver that came with the Dell remote. Did you get any type of driver CD for the remote?
(I used to live in KC North).

Thanks for the reply. I checked and did not get a driver CD but I did find my Media Center Set Up instruction card. On it shows how to set up the IR w/remote to the set top cable box. The final instruction tells you to push the button on the remote to launch the media center. Maybe I have to disconnect and then reconnect IR to computer and it will launch the wizard again (You think)?
I do live in KC North near I-35 & I-29 split, small world.:emotion-1:

Connect the IR to the PC and then go to the Device Manager and if it's listed in the Device Manager uninstall it. Then disconnect the unit, restart the PC and attach it and Windows should detect and reinstall it. I've done that on USB connected devices that would not operate properly. Also, BEFORE you disconnect a USB device, RIGHT click on the small green icon in the Sys Tray and then Left Click on "Safely Remove Hardware" (I think that's what it says). If you just disconnect a USB device the status can get corrupted and you have to do the uninstall in the Device Manager as I noted. Do this for USB connected memory "Keys" too - just about anything except a printer as I've found it doesn't matter with the Printer.
To acces the Device Manager, hold the Windows key down and press the Pause/Break key. If you have Vista when the panel comes up, the Device Manager is listed in the Task list in the upper left.
(We were close - I lived on NE 55th Street, about a block west of the Antioch Annex. I retired in 96 and moved to Florida. My daughter is the Hy Vee Health Market Manager at the Hy Vee at I29 and Barry Road).

There are a couple of questions to your comments: 1) Under system devices, I see Consumer IR Devices-Is this it? 2) Where do I find Sys Tray and what is it? This kind of stuff is new to me since Dec. 2008. Also, what do the stars mean @top of post? Do we click them or someone else?
Yes, we were very close though in '96 I lived in Gladstone. I shop at Hy-Vee on N. Antioch (N. Prospect actually) and NE 72nd. Grew up with Hy-Vee in Iowa and have had friends who also worked there, one at the Coorp Offices years ago before they where here in Missouri. May have to add you as friend so can communicate privately about personal stuff?

1. Yes that would be the item.
2. The Sys Tray is the area on the lower right side of the task bar, with the various icons for your antivirus, volume control, etc.
My daughter worked at that Hy Vee when it first opened in the Health and Beauty department and then moved to the one on Barry road when it first opened. Prior to that she worked at the Big Burger on Vivion Rd. Yes, do a friend request and I'll add you on.

Send me a message via my posted e-mail address. The Dell chat is not working correctly.

Now my WMC has started giving error messages when trying to use Live TV and Set up TV Signal. When Live TV selected it does not work anymore and gives Mess#1: "Set Top Box Error, To fix set up TV signal" on gray screen; or Mess #2: " TV Tuner Viewing or Listening Conflict, do I want to take control (yes or no)? When trying to Setup TV Signal in settings, I get to Downloading TV Options then Mess #3: "Media Center not working, close and restart media center" on gray screen.
I worked on the phone with Dell and we tried a lot such as viewing problem reports, running fixes, turning things off, restoring system to previous dates, and ultimately reconfigured my OS. After OS reinstall everything seemed fine. I was able to go through the Set Up TV Signal and Program remote w/IR and finished. Everything worked incl TV but one button on remote needed to be reset and when going back through Set Up TV Signal again to redo the #1 button. It happened again, Mess #1: "Media Center Not Working, close and restart media center" on gray screen. Trouble Report info says that capability problem with rc_Vista.exe and ehshell.exe files. Tech also worked with these files before redo of OS. Some update must be doing this but don't know. Help please, I checked other questions and answers and none helped. Thank you.
