I am considering purchasing a Dell desktop. I understand that Dell contracts with third parties to provide tech support. How do I find out who in my area provides technical support?

Dell does not contract support - it does contract out onsite service, when that is required.
Phone support depends on what you purchase and what you opt for - you CAN purchase US-based support on business-class models. Like most others, basic support on consumer-grade systems is offshore.
