which program do i need to open a pdf file?

hi all im currently pulling my hair out LOL ive done a system restore and i thought my problem was over with adobe reader and pdf files, but i was wrong the installation is now complete of adobe reader i am trying to open up an ebook i have saved it to my computer and it wants to know which program to open it with ive tried most of them any ideas? thanks to anyone who can help
