Hyper Terminal / serial port
When I try to set up hyper Terminal for Com 1 serial port, I get a message 'another program is using the selected telephony device. There is no modem or other device connected. There is no communications program running. If I connect an RS232 device to the serial port the computer boots up, but then goes into an orderly shut down. Is this a harware or software problem? How do I fix it so I can use the serial port?

All it means is that another program is using IRQ4 which is normally assigned to COM1.
