7020 SFF Salvage Operations
Hey everyone,
So, I have a 7020SFF that has a bad mobo, so I won't be putting it back into service. I was thinking of stripping it down for parts and seeing what can be used where. I think I have an idea of what all I can salvage from it, but I wanted to get a second opinion from here. I think this post can also apply to the 3020 & 9020s as well. I know I can put the memory in other machines, and I know the processor is still good (it's an i5-4590) The power supply is also still good. Aside from those, what can be saved? Are there some components more desirable than others?
I currently have two 3020 SFFs awaiting restoration, and I'm supposed to be getting more "dumpster" PCs soon.. I think one of them is another 7020 SFF. (I'm hoping for a 9020 MT, then I can really have some fun.)

Yes cpu ram can both be reused in minitower desktop. Cpu is more valuable than ram. The slim dvd can also be reused.
SFF psu has proprietary form factor. Keep them for test psu only if one day the tower does not POST.

If I keep the PSUs, I'll be using those in other Optiplex SFFs. I have a spare 250W PSU out of my 9020 SFF for when I upgraded it to a gaming PC. So I can use that as a test power supply. I'd probably keep one so it can save me a trip to eBay.
I very highly doubt that I will be getting any dumpster MTs, because my workplace loves to keep those in service as those are the main PCs they use for testing communication devices. Most of the PCs here are MTs... I even saw an old 980 MT still in service! Any dumpster PCs I get will more than likely be SFFs, or the rare USFF.
