9010, PSU upgrade?
Hello,
I have an Optiplex 9010 that works fine. Trying to install a gaming video card. Trouble is, the card requires a power supply. I was told I could replace the stock power supply with something newer - but I have no idea how to identify the part I need.
Can anyone help with this?
Thanks,
Chris

Do you have a link for the PSU you bought? I couldn't find a Gigabyte TFX PSU. So if you have a DT and not an MT, an ATX PSU would have to go outside the case.

@bradthetechnut I've been reading on PSU and I heard really good reviews about this brand. I'm not sure if you've heard of it. But, my computer comes sometime next week or so or early as June 2nd. I was reading and this guy on Tomhardware said "The PSU is the heart of your system. Without it NOTHING works! The PSU is the only component that, if it fails, can destroy ALL of your other components. If you can't afford a decent PSU, how will you afford to replace your other components? Never "cheap out" on the PSU, it is false economy!" That really hit me hard, cause sometimes I'm wanting to save money but end up having to push out more cash in the end. Let me know what you think about this supplier bro, I'll make an offer with him.
The other one that I canceled will come next Saturday, but this guy I could get it by this week. I really need to make a decision. Or I could go with what you suggested.

Could you show me an example of a power supply being outside of case? That looks ugly ahah. Is there another power supply that fit inside the case or that's just how the 9010 DT power supply is set up that way?

I Googled and got images to come up with what it looks like with PSU outside the case. It looks like an MT, but current Dell Optiplex and Inspiron MT's are smaller than they used to be, so they come with the skinny PSU's.
I don't know if they are images taken by speedstep or just used by speedstep.
Images probably won't show until after the weekend:

Oh right, yeah true. Well, I could either use the 1050TI for light gaming on medium or something, but I also have a 610 which is really old, or I could always use the windows default graphics lol... I'm thinking about selling it to get the 1650 or so.
Do you know if its possible to buy another case/tower to fit the 500w? Cause the one that you send me, its generic. Chinese type of PSU and we know its only temporary...

Oh okay, I think I'ma just stick to the TFX then. I wish I knew about all of this before I started buying things... kinda regret it. But, its a learning process. I'm going to buy the 430w. You mentioned before, that "Remember, the 75w GTX 1050 ti won't work as well with your PSU." What did you mean by that?

I had in an earlier post:
Graphic card is too weak for this processor:
Intel Core i7-3770 (Clock speed at 115%) with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (Clock speed at 120%) x1 will produce 54.91% of bottleneck. Everything over 10% is considered as bottleneck. Bottleneck checks have been coming from PC Builds.
I meant to say the GPU won't work as well with your CPU.

Okay, so for this TFX PSU, acts the same way as a ATX PSU? It still needs the 24pin right? If that's the case, then I'm going to just get the TFX PSU then.

It's a big list. I'm not familiar with the sources. If there's a particular brand you want, like Gigabyte, I'd go with the reviews.
If you want to know what doesn't work, besides what's on that list, speedstep usually mentions the EVGA's that don't work - B2, BQ, N1, W1; which is why he goes with BR and I think B1. Both are non-modular. It appears that the BR is newer than the B1. It doesn't mean the B2 & etc. versions are bad, but apparently don't work with Dell's.
Image will show once approved by a moderator, probably after the weekend:

The TFX PSU's I linked will fit inside the case. But you'd have to ne ready with something like 2-way foam tape if the screw holes don't line up.
Speedstep has photos of what PSU's look like outside the case. But I couldn't immediately find a post with those photos. And no, it's not pretty. But some people do it.

Wow this is crazy... I'm waiting to see if tomorrow they would cancel my order as I paid on Friday afternoon, they haven't shipped out my order yet so we will see. I have the MT on the way, and I need to sell my 1050ti and just start over from scratch.

I don't know that you'd need the LP version of the 1650 ti to fit in an MT. If you watch the videos, they fit. Exception of course LP bracket used on the smaller Optiplex's and/or LP versions in the smaller Optiplex's.

Yeah, I'll be getting a 7010 MT, wish it was 9010 MT that way I could get more ram in the future but even then I don't think it matters as far as performance based. This is all new to me, so I apologize for going through in circles, man I wish I could talk to you on the phone Brad, I really appreciate it a lot. Now, that I've made my decision to just get the MT. I just need to get a LP graphics card, no upgrade PSU.

I have no idea what pc the quote is referencing, let alone if they fit the rest of the components back inside the case. That would not make an ATX PSU fit inside a DT case.
