Cannot Miracast on Optiplex 7010

Hello, First time poster here needing some help.

I have a Dell Optiplex 7010 MT and a Microsoft Surface 3, both running Windows 10.

The 7010 is connected by wired Ethernet, as well as by wireless wifi to the same router. The Surface is also connected by wireless wifi to the same router.

I am able to mirror the Surface screen to a year old LG smart TV via Miracast. But I am unable to do the same with the 7010.

In the Surface Display settings, there is a "Connect to a wireless display" option. There is no such option in the 7010 Display settings. This is the only difference I noticed between the two computers. Can this be the cause of the problem?

I also came upon this article (undated), and wonder if the 7010 supports Miracast at all.

https://www.dell.com/support/article/th/en/thbsd1/sln304839/intel-widi-compatibility-needed-for-miracast-to-mirror-a-display-within-windows-10?lang=en

Thanks in advance.

The 7010 is ancient Windows XP compatible NON UEFI Class 2.3.1 machine.

INTEL has abandoned Miracast.

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS.

Transmitting end:

  • WiFi device with NDIS 6.3 driver. (Check with Get-NetAdapter | Select Name, NdisVersion in PowerShell.)

  • Video driver that supports WDDM 1.3  Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 or better. (Ivy Bridge Core I7 with 2012 WIN8 UEFI bios)  7010 is PRE win8 and supports booting 32 bit windows XP so this is NEVER an option.

Receiving end: Any device certified for Miracast? Netgear Push2TV confirmed to work.

Intel no longer provides email, chat, or phone support for this product.

Intel has discontinued marketing and development for Intel® Wireless Display (Intel® WiDi) and Intel® Pro Wireless Display (Intel® Pro WiDi) applications and related receiver certification programs effective immediately.

Q: How long will support for Intel WiDi continue?
A: See the key dates for Intel WiDi support:

August 15, 2016 – Intel WiDi software downloads have been removed.

October 15, 2016 – Intel customer support no longer accepts customer contacts for Intel WiDi. Support includes phone, email, web submission, chat, and the Intel WiDi support community.

December 15, 2016 – Intel WiDi support articles have been removed. A small archive of basic troubleshooting information will still be available.

Thanks.

Will I be able to mirror the 7010 screen if I add a Chromecast to the TV?

Chrome-cast works via the Chrome Browser and requires supported os.

That means XP and Vista and soon WIN7 will be end of life.

To mirror your entire desktop display, click on Cast tab, then select Cast desktop. Select your device from the list, then decide whether to uncheck the box for sharing audio. Select Share to begin casting.

My 7010 is running Windows 10, so should be able to mirror my desktop with Chromecast. Just want to make sure that there is no 7010 hw requirements.

Chromecast requirements are Can you run supported 64 bit version of the Browser.

End of story.

Microsoft and INTEL and AMD and NVIDIA etc have all agreed to the Windows 10 only 64 bit only make the users buy new stuff every 3 years or less monopoly. 32-bit operating systems support ended April 2018.

Systems past Skylake ONLY support windows 10 so XP/VISTA/7/8 are no longer an option for new PC.

This is Microsoft copying Apple so that if you buy something it will ONLY RUN the latest os and after a few years CANNOT BE UPGRADED.

@mjt4283 Did the Chromecast work in mirroring your desktop to TV?
