Dell Optiplex 7020sff cpu upgrade, SOLDERED??
Hello there, I just triet to remove mi i5 4590 from a Dell optiplex 7020sff i was given for free in order to sell it and buy a used i7 i can find locally. Have already upgraded to 1tb ssd and some memory will be soon here for 16gb. After taking some time for someone to ask for the cpu I found an interest and today i tried to take the cpu out. To my surprise the i5 I got had no pins at all. All inside the socket and the i5 was bald. Wonder why this happens? Is it pre soldered? Can I take the pins out and install an i7? I have nowhere in forums before read of a similar problem, all seem to switch cpu easily.

Intel CPUs do not have any pins only landing surfaces. The pins are located in the socket. If you have a CPU with pins then it is not an Intel CPU. This picture is of a typical Intel CPU.
As far as a CPU upgrade is concerned, this forum thread will help. In short an i7-4790 would be the best CPU that you can upgrade to.
EDIT: And @redxps630 types faster than this old tech.

No worries. It is normal. Intel core cpu has flat back side. No pins. The socket for cpu has pins (LGA)

in the old days Pentium 4 cpu has pins and socket is flat with holes (PGA). Same for AMD cpu.
