Dell Optiplex 755 Mother Board

Hello guys, this is my first time to be here, and I got a question about upgrading my MT Tower Dell Optiplex 755 to an i7 CPU Motherboard. So, is it possible gentlemen to replace the whole board with a new generation i7 Motherboard? If so, would you please guide me to an excellent type that would fit in size and operation within my old tower, no matter how much it cost? I have read that I could jump to 9020 or so, but I really want to keep my old tower it looks perfect for me. If possible I will move into 1 TB SSD and get rid of the old HDD. In addition, I'm going to increase the RAM from 4G to 16GB to improve the computer performance, despite my old CPU is 2.66GHz, but it doesn't satisfy my needs. Therefore, would someone of this community computer expert answers my inquiry.

Thanks indeed,

Re: is it possible gentlemen to replace the whole board with a new generation i7 Motherboard?

unfortunately not possible if you want to use the 755 MT case which is BTX and only accommodates BTX motherboard.  the next Optiplex model using 1st and 2nd gen core i7 cpu is 980 or 790 which are both ATX.  the modern intel motherboards are almost all ATX (or proprietary).

if you really want to stick with the 755 tower case, you need to cut/mod the chassis into an ATX case or ask some one to help you do that.  people have done this to the XPS 720 case which is BTX and changed it into ATX.  it is labor intensive and not for everyone.

@Falcon

755 ahci changed to ATA would transfer to an Inspiron 3847 set to ATA Legacy mode.

You cant use this board in a 755 case.

You need a 3847 with I7 and 16 gigs of ram because the DDR2 ram does not translate into a newer DDR3 or DDR4 model.

A better upgrade choice would be an optiplex XE2 Tower.

This will cost LESS than the I7 4770S alone and is compatible with $14 WIN10 DVD for reinstall.

Hello my fellow, if I couldn't get the benefit from my old 755, therefore, I need your suggestion about moving into an excellent Optiplex for home and designing graphics too. Would you please tell me which type of Optiplex MT you think it's going to satisfy my needs, as an advanced user? I was really suffering from my old 755 performance, despite it has a 2.66GHZ CPU and 4GB RAM. Maybe if I mounted the OS on SSD, it would make it faster, but I decided not to waste money on the old machine.

Optiplex XE2 is newer but not crazy expensive.

You could move your hard drive to this model then reinstall windows 10 via OEM DVD.

755 is only borderline okay for light internet and email nowadays.  It can still run Windows 10. Re: I was really suffering from my old 755 performance, despite it has a 2.66GHZ CPU and 4GB RAM

core 2 duo cpu is old having only 2 cores slower than 1st gen i3.  the cpu itself is of old architecture and its whole construct is much slower than any i7 let alone modern i3/i5.  you can not compare cpu by just ghz clock.  single thread benchmark and multi thread performance are more relevant than ghz.

re:would you please recommend to me the best brand new, Dell Optiplex MT PC nowadays in the market that is more powerful and has great performance? I'm not familiar these days with which Dell Optiplex MT computer is the best choice and the latest ones.

latest ones are 7090MT and 7080MT.  These use Q570 and Q470 chipset and support latest 11th and 10th gen Intel core i7 or i9 cpu.
