Dell Optiplex 780 Circa 2010

Question

Hi Can I install an M2 SSD into this machine using an M2 format PCIeX card? The answer is yes from a physical perspective as the slot is available on the motherboard, so really my question is will the BIOS recognise the SSD? I appreciate it won't boot from the SSD as the machine has a non uefi BIOS. If the system will recognise it, is there an SSD size limitation in this context? Any thoughts greatly appreciated. Paul

@Paulskirk53  Where are you getting the wrong idea that it won't be able to boot from a SSD because it has legacy BIOS? ? ?

From a friend with a Dell with Legacy bios who tried to fit an M2 disk and it wasn't recognised. I guess I could tell him he was wrong

You cant boot from PCI-E ssd. You can from SATA 2.5 inch SSD where bios is set to AHCI not IRRT or ATA.

@Paulskirk53  Your friend must believe in doing things the hard way. I have always used regular 2.5' SSDs .
