Thanks Mary G for your reply. I still have just a few problems; the article stated that I could just bring my trade in to Fedex and they would package it but I heard I needed to pack it up myself. Also, Dell only will take one trade in at a time? I guess Customer Care could answer these questions but I thought it better to see if anyone had any experience with this procedure.
I recently used Dell's trade-in program for the first time. In the process, I discovered that FedEx has different types of shipping locations. You need to go to a "FedEx Office" location. They will pack and ship your computer at no charge to you. I had to drive about an hour to get to the one nearest to me, but if you live in a larger city, there are likely several. Go to the FedEx website to find the nearest FedEx Office location.
No, just don't do it. What is wrong with Dell? I put my 2yr old 7070 SFF with an i9-9900 - 32GB RAM and a P5 NVMe M.2 1TB + a 4TB Seagate external storage drive into the form to value the trade in. My PC is worth about £1000 ($1300) if I left my GTX GPU in also, and it came up as $181(£137) which is a total insult. Dell used to be so awesome, you could build whatever you needed and their prices were fair and some models were great value. At what point do these companies just snap and say, arrrrrrrr we'll just rip off customers like everyone does and not maintain any quality or consistency into the future. Nice one Dell. £137..... How very rude.
Your right Steve, I put a few good machines in the form and got insulted as well. I have the same question about Dell - Dell used to be a great company to do business with - even their technical support doesn't seem to know what to do. I recently purchased a new machine with space and connections for two hard drives and an upgrade express PCIE slot. Unfortunately, Dell manufactures the machine so it's almost impossible to install and use two hard drives due to the BIOS set-up, and the PCIe slot is useless since the power supplies are only 280 Watt maximum. I guess companies just get to big to care for the little guy (even though we're the reason they got big).
I went through the Dell Trade-in Process recently and will share with you my (negative) experience. I got a quote for a 3-year old Latitude, which Dell was not going to support any longer. The quote was $200. Since I was supposed to be able to use the Credit on Dell.com, I decided that since they were not going to support my 3-year old laptop any more, that I would take advantage of the credit.
I dropped off the unit at Fedex. All fine. Two weeks later I contacted Dell to find the status of my credit, and then three weeks later and then 4 weeks later. I had someone call me every coule of days by then telling me that they would sort it out. Finally I got an email with a Dell digital credit card for $150. Hmmm.... irritating, but ok.
So next I tried to use it on Dell.com/outlet ... Dell.com site .... right?
I got an email the following day saying the Dell card was declined. I called them and spoke to Technical Support, Sales Support, Customer Support, Outlet support. No one could tell me who to talk to about why the Dell digital credit card was declined. There does not seem to be department to handle these digital cards. Anyway, eventually a rep at Dell.com/outlet said, the "Trade-in" credit cads don't work on the Outlet site, only on Dell.com. I said "Hold on, I ordered the device on Dell.com/outlet", the system did not send me to a new site like "Delloutlet.com". No where does it say in the trade-in offer that you can't use it on Dell's outlet site. Based on my experience, the Dell Trade-in site and its offering is missleading and not worth it.
I had exactly the same experience. I returned my 17" laptop that was 2 yrs old, waited 4 weeks, and contacted Dell. I was told they had no information and to contact their third party which refused to respond. If you send it in you will never receive credit or hear from them again.
Did you ever get your credit? I sent my laptop in over 15 days ago and the status says they are waiting to receive it but Fedex shows it was delivered a week ago. I wish I never started this process but it's too late now and there's no one to call for help.
It’s Friday, ending week 3 of this saga, and still no status update. The device was delivered by FedEx 2 weeks ago but the Dell status still shows as “waiting to be received at facility”. And of course, there’s no one to contact.
I finally got my credit and it was for exactly what I was expecting. So, I appreciate that I got the credit for the right amount and I already used it for a new XPS and it worked just fine. My only suggestion to Dell would be to provide more transparency around the program and give people a place to call in. It’s unnerving when you send off your system and you are completely dependent upon everyone doing what they are supposed to. Glad it’s over and ended well.
Anyone considering Dell’s trade-in program should exercise caution. You may not receive the amount initially quoted by Dell. The devices are sent to a third-party company called Apkudo, which can alter the value and potentially lead to an unfavorable outcome.

See this if the units are worth anything-- Dell Trade-In Frequently Asked Questions | Dell US
If they are too old or don't qualify--Donate the units to Good Will and get a receipt for a tax deductible donation.
