Dell optiplex 760 pc2 6400u
Hi
I've been looking to upgrade eghe ram of my optiplex to 8gb just for a project, but ddr2 is hard to find cheap now. The only ddr2 I can find is pc2 6400u, I know that pc2 6400/ddr2 800mhz is supported but is 6400u? And what does the u stand for?
Thanks, John

u stands for un-buffered. that is what you need for desktop pc: non ECC, un--buffered (aka unregistered).
are you trying to find 4x2 GB ddr2-800 to have total 8 GB?
not sure if this one is good for you (21.99 for 8 GB). https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hynix-8GB-4x2GB-HYMP125U64CP8-S6-800MHz-DDR2-Used-Tested-Working-Great/324113625380?hash=item4b76ad7124%3Ag%3AD7YAAOSwRS1eekDz&LH_BIN=1

Do you mean you already have 2x2 gb installed and two empty DIMM slots available? If yes assuming your current sticks are matched pair of ddr2-800, you can get another matched pair of 2x2 gb, not necessarily identical to the ones you already have. Just make sure installing matched pair in same color tabbed slots for dual channel, meaning ABAB in DIMM1-4.
not sure if this one looks good to you, https://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-4GB-2X2GB-DDR2-2RX8-PC2-6400U-800MHz-240PIN-DIMM-Intel-RAM-Desktop-memory/233556398549?hash=item36610bd1d5%3Ag%3AHpcAAOSw%7E15ekhUO&LH_BIN=1
