Dell optiplex usb 3 not working
Greetings
I have a dell optiplex the motherboard code is 0773vg. As I said in the title the usb 3.0 both front and back fail after a few weeks of working.
Obviously I checked and downloaded all drivers it keeps happening even after a new windows install with all drivers downloaded.
All other motherboard functions are ok although the pc is also very picky about ram types it acceps and also occasionally the will need to be reseated for the pc to boot.
The dell diagnostics finds no problem at all.
Could it be a faulty motherboard or are there things I have overlooked?

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

check bios. do you happen to have front/rear USB3.0 disabled?
Dell Optiplex 7010 LGA 1155 Desktop PC Motherboard 0773VG
USB Configuration
For Mini-Tower, Desktop, Small Form Factor the options are:
• Enable Boot Support
• Enable Rear Dual USB Ports
• Enable Rear Quad USB Ports
• Enable Front USB Ports

I checked those options and it works for now again. For how long is the problem after a days or weeks the usb 3.0 stops responding again.

Probably good idea to replace CMOs battery with a brand new CR2032. Your bios may be slowly corrupted on an old battery.

USB 3 not working is driver issue.
You did not say what windows version is.

Yes I just did that the system clock in the bios changed itself all the time.

It may not hurt to try a different MB. Many on ebay in the $20's. Drivers typically don't work and then quit that I know of, or do a repeat of on & off. Usually either they work or they don't. Win10 has USB 3.0 driver built in.
Also, when USB 3.0 isn't working, does 2.0 still work in the 3.0 slots, or do the 3.0 slots play dead?

Hi @echosonic,
What is your OS? Reason being is some comes with drivers and some don't.

My Optiplex 7010 has this as a constant re-occurring problem. Quickest temporary quick fix I know is to go to Device Manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers and choose USB Root Hub (USB 3.0) where I then right click and disable it and confirm that I want to disable it, then I enable it and Presto it is working again at least for a little while. I would welcome a more lasting solution if anyone knows of one!
