Older Dell's can be a little more finicky with RAM.  RAM sticks should be matching in size, speed, and brand.

I'm sure not fun to hear, but a refurb 755 I used had Hynix RAM.  It failed twice and then I replaced it.

Crucial RAM is guaranteed to work in Dell's and has a lifetime warranty.  If you want to save a little $ on an older machine, I used A-Tech RAM in my 755, which also has a lifetime warranty.

Thanks Everybody !, of course i will not change all my ram by the same type to get 8MB. I follow with my original configuration of 6MB. Some time I will buy another machine and that is. Thanks for your ideas and good luck for all.

The ram is bad or its not compatible.

Low Density modules are required.

Thanks for your attention. Like you think, hose rams may have problems but the BIOS saw 8MB; even indicated 8GHz as memory speed. They are low density (HYMP125U64CP8 - S6 AB - C)... It would better that BIOS didn't recognize.. it will have been more simply. I don't know what think...

Yes, crucial brand ram from genuine micron factories is about the only memory that will ever work in a dell computer. All other brands will fail the memory check at boot.

Most dell computers have code in the bios firmware that checks on the memory brand, and sets a flag, if non crucial memory is detected. Later in the boot process, it will report errors and refuse to boot if there is any memory module which is not crucial brand.

Nobody knows why dell secretly  excluded all memory except crucial from micron.

HAHAHA, just re-read the op. He's got 2MB ram all the way to 8 GB ram. Nevermind

Has anyone used the new ddr 17 memory, specifically the new 512 Tb sticks from micron or crucial? I hear it's the cat's meow.
