Memory issue...
Was wondering if anyone here could help me?
I just purchased a Dell Refurbished OptiPlex 3010 Desktop - Intel Core i5 3470 processor- 8GB Memory.
It has 2 - 4 gig sticks in it.
I have 2 Corsair Vengeance 8 gig sticks (DDR3-1600's) that I want to put in it. (for a total of 16 gig)
Computer: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/dell-refurbished-optiplex-desktop-intel-core-i5-8gb-memory-2tb-hard-drive-black/5713334.p?skuId=5713334
Mem: https://www.newegg.com/corsair-8gb-240-pin-ddr3-sdram/p/N82E16820233196?Item=N82E16820233196
I can not get the 3010 board to see all 8 gig on each stick. All it will see is 4. I have put one 8 gig stick at a time into each slot and no mater what I do, it will only see 4 gig. For a total of 8 gig of system memory.
I know that board will do more that a total of 8 gig. Any idea how I fix this?
Thank you everyone,
John

The memory you linked are 4 GB sticks. It was sold as a pair of 4 GB sticks, yielding 8GB total.
So your system is working perfectly; nothing to fix.

Wow... when I purchased the Asrock MB from NewEgg, I told them on the phone order that I wanted 16 gig of decent memory and the guy said this was what he would put in his computer. I thought that just meant 4 gig on each side or end of the module. OK... so I'll move on to my next problem in a new post. Thank you, J

Hi @BiggyJ69,
A couple of things need clarifying to help you further. You purchased an Asrock MB and put it in your 3010 case? One would have to contact Asrock or see if they have a community thread if it's not reading all of your RAM.
If you're working with your original MB, I'm pasting from the Optiplex 3010 Tech Guide :
NOTE: Memory modules should be installed in pairs of matched memory size, speed, and technology. If the memory modules are not installed in matched pairs, the computer will continue to operate, but with a slight reduction in performance. The entire 8GB memory range is available to 64-bit operating systems.
Max RAM for the 3010 MT is listed as 8GB. If users have been able to exceed that, I don't know off hand.

You forgot to mention that Kingston ram never works and crucial always works and is guaranteed and recommended by "our" rock stars.

NO... I had originally bought the memory WHEN I BOUGHT THE ASROCK MB.
When my AsRock MB went out on me I purchased the Optiplex 3010 which came with 2 - 4 gig sticks.
I had the 2 Corsair Vengeance memory sticks from the AsRock, which are not being used now.
I am trying to get the Corsair memory to work in the Dell 3010. Will only show me 4 gig each. I was really sure they were 8 gig sticks.

Shoot. Yah, the 3010's usually run in the low $100's with an I5. Rare I mention such a thing, but that's quite a difference in price. Thought I'd mention for the next time you shop for a PC. Amazon is normally a little higher too with their "renewed" versions.

@donm4599x,
You forgot to mention it's KVR (Kingston Value Ram) that rarely works in Dell's. Regular Kingston is okay. We just had an Optiplex user today or yesterday using KVR and guess what, it wasn't working. Fireberd answered that post.
Neither fireberd or speedstep said only Crucial works in Dell's for non-Dell RAM. However, Crucial does work, is guaranteed to work in Dell's, and has a lifetime warranty. And I'm sure you've seen my other suggestions for RAM if user wants to save a little $ on an older machine. A-Tech also has a lifetime warranty and I've used it.
You seem to be suspicious of things that work.

Max DIMM capacity in the 3010 is 4GB, and the RAM you linked is 2 x 4GB sticks.
I don't know if you are in the U.S. or not, but I think you were overcharged for the 3010. For less, you could've gotten a 7010 with 16GB max RAM capacity. It looks like that's what you were going for.
Below screengrab is from eBay and will show once approved by a moderator. I couldn't as easily make 2 particular 7010's come up online.

I think you must have this thread mixed up with some other one. I DON'T use KVR and never will. Please read the actual opening thread at the top that I posted.
Thank you,
John
