Optiplex 3010 doesn't recognize graphic card

Dear Dell Community!

I have a Dell Optiplex 3010 PC and I decided to upgrade it so I bought and installed a Sapphire HD 6670 video card. My problem is that the PC doesn't recognize it for some reason. It didn't have a graphics card before, I used the integrated card until now. The video card fan spins, so I think that the video card is works (if I know well, it only receives power from the motherboard), but I don't see the card neither in the BIOS nor the device manager (only see the integrated card). If I connect the HDMI cable to the video card, only a black screen appears, but with an integrated card, everything is fine. I tried to install the VGA driver, but it unsuccesfull, because the card not detected. I use the system in UEFI mode, and the Secure boot is turned off. Any idea, what could be the problem?

My Config:

Motherboard: Dell 042P49 with newest BIOS (A22)

Processor: Intel I3 2120

Power Supply: Akyga AK-B1-550

RAM: 8 GB 1333 MHz

Windows 10

Where did you download the drivers from since you mentioned VGA driver?

Catalist software suit, and Radeon Software Crimson also installed. But I think, not the driver is the problem.

Re: The video card fan spins, so I think that the video card is works

fan spinning is not evidence that the video card works or not.  it just means fan receives power from motherboard.  If dev manager video adapter shows nothing other than intel HD graphics, i.e., no change whether or not the hd 6670 is installed, it simply means the card is not detected by pc as a new hardware.  this does not necessarily mean card is bad. what you can try is first replace cmos battery with a new cr2032, then clear motherboard cmos settings via motherboard RTCRST jumper. this resets bios to default.  perhaps bios is corrupted not allowing detection of card.  If after this card is still not detected at all (let alone giving video signal), you can then suspect card is defective.

Thanks for the specs   Also, looking up MB and PSU part #'s tells me you have the MT (mini tower).

A few things to try:

  • Try the GPU in another PC.
  • Try a different GPU.
  • Try a brand name PSU vs. off-brand.

I don't know what's all available for PSU's where you are, but some good and well known brand names are EVGA, Corsair, Thermaltake, and Cooler Master just to name a few.

Try the first two steps I gave first, but I think the problem is likely the replacement PSU.  By the way, if the PSU is the problem, GPU still might work in another PC.
