Optiplex 3020 Mini Tower, BIOS - should I update or not?
Hi folks - having read all about the Meltdown & Spectre risks, I have downloaded the MicroSoft update for Win7.
On the Dell site, I have read about updating my BIOS, & have downloaded the correct BIOS update file. The instructions say I should "Run the BIOS update file from within Windows". Or, "Run the BIOS update utility from DOS environment if Legacy Boot Mode".
My BIOS is Legacy Boot Mode, but is it OK to still run the update file from within Windows? But, because my PC is now a few years old, is it even worth trying this update?
I'm extremely nervous about updating the BIOS, in case it goes wrong & I'm unable to run my PC ever again. Please can you experts advise?
I'd very much appreciate your help & advice. Thank you.
Kind regards, Niloc1017

Niloc1017,
You may want to update to the latest bios version. Follow the instructions for installing as well. You can run the bios in the Windows Environment.

Hi Jesse L - many thanks for your helpful comments about updating my BIOS. I've not yet done that, as I'm not sure if my ageing Optiplex will be protected after the update.
I'm also worried about the update wrecking my PC, having heard of such tales !
Kind regards, & thanks too for the links. Niloc1017
