Optiplex 3020 displayport MST support
Hi guys,
I want to daisychain 4 monitors (DELL U2717D) to an Optiplex 3020. The Optiplex 3020 comes with an I3-4160 that has an Intel HD graphics 4400.
This PC has one Displayport onboard.
My question is: Does the onboard port support MST? Would i be able to connect the 4 monitores in daisychain out of the box?
Appreciate your insight.

@Pride1922 the card is a specific dell part. There are others available i.e an HP version, however it has different connectors.
My suggestion would be to contact our out of warranty team and they can advise if the card is still in stock and then give you a price for it. You can contact them on Call 02 481 9288 quoting part number FN46D. They should be able to advise your best options.
With regards to other graphics cards, I can't honestly say, the other community members may be able to offer another suggestion for what you are looking for. The Quadro card you suggested is only a half height card and wont fit the chassis. Please also be advised if you go third party for a graphics card, it needs to be powered off the PCIe X16 slot on the motherboard rather than a connector from the PSU.

id go this card
https://www.newegg.com/evga-geforce-gtx-1650-04g-p4-1153-kr/p/N82E16814487444
1650 is entry level Turing calls chip. board.
see those DP ports, 1.4 x2? above/.
and this device, splitter. but my guess is existing DP port must 1.2 MST rated.

3020 MT?
buy new GPU card.
what sized cased PC is it. 3020 is not one PC. is group of PCs.
what PSU do you have in this PC, this is first for new GPU card, the cards are VAST.
the new DP cards are 1.4 and work.

Thank you for your answers.
I also have an Optiplex 5050 tower with 2 displayports service tag REMOVED.
Would this one support MST?
Thanks in advance.

@Pride1922 in order for MST daisy chaining to work the DisplayPorts and monitors both need to support version 1.2
As both of the DisplayPorts on the tower support 1.2 the tower is certainly capable of it. Do the monitors that you have support DP1.2?
The article that speedstep linked to above explains how to set up the monitors in this configuration.

Thank you @Dell-Alan D for your fast answer. That is what i thought.
Lets say i use 1 DP 1.2 to daisychain 2 monitors. Then i use HDMI to connect to my computer screen, and then i use 2 usb 3.0 adapters to give me 2 extra hdmi for the last 2 monitors.
Could this work?

@Pride1922 apologies for missing that very important details. According to Intel, the HD530 supports at maximum 3 displays.
Unless you buy an add in graphics card that supports 4 displays or more, it's not possible to output to more than 3 displays with your current setup.

Hi @Dell-Alan D
Thank you kindly for you answer. Yes the monitors (DELL U2717D) support MST. The problem i believe is the graphics card. It is an intel hd graphics 530 and i believe this can only support up to 3 monitors.
What i would like to do is connect the 4 monitors using DP 1.2 in daisychain and have a normal monitor connected to another port (hdmi). I know how to do this i just dont know if the optiplex 5050 will be able to do it.
I was hoping that someone else already felt in the same situation and would have some insight.

@Pride1922 no, there is a limitation on what the graphics chipset can output at, both in resolution and number of screens.

@Dell-Alan D Thank you for your clear answer.
So my only option would be now to buy a graphics card that would support this setup.
Would you be so kind and recomend a graphics card that would allow my Optiplex 5050 to connect to 4 screen in daisychain?

@Pride1922 the recommended graphics card for your system is the Radeon R7 450 card. It has dual DisplayPort 1.2 ports allowing you to connect up two monitors to those ports and then daisychain the remaining 2 monitors, giving you a 2x2 set up connected to each displayport.
The part number you require is FN46D.

@Dell-Alan D Thanks for the reply. Sorry for the delay it's been busy days.
I cannot find on our suppliers the recommend part. i can find something similar like: Nvidia Quadro K600 1G DP1.2 part number: VCQK600-PB
As far as i know ive got the Optiplex 5050 that has a 240W power source and can support a Full Height PCIe x16.
It's been really difficult to find the adequate graphics card for this setup. I really appreciate your help.
Please do let me know what you think about the Quadro K600 or if you have any other suggestion. Im Europe based (Belgium)
Thank you for your help.

don't you mean the stock PC with no GPU X2 DP video card fails. (vast are good.)
I guess you meant the iGPU intel HD port DP fails to support this. right?

oP in Europe. 3020 MT (mini tower like mine) I have 2019 new GTX1650 by Zotac in mine but is fast not 2x DP.
I do have K2000 and runs perfect in mine too, 2x DP 1.2. not tested MST me.
try the k2200 quada. mst 1.2 it does MST , read this to learn ropes and problems with MST its good, he does it right and wrong and examples super good.
Some early cards were buggy with MST.
best yes is this great Nvidia matrix of Features, a ID GO DP 1.4, and not look back.
