Optiplex 3070 shuts down whilst installing graphics drivers

I have an Optiplex 3070 with the i5 9500, 16GB memory, 512GB SSD and 260W PSU.

I decided to install an Nvidia GeForce GT 710 into the system. It boots up fine, but the drivers are obviously not installed when it first boots.

Whenever I attempt to install the drivers, whether it be through device manager, GeForce experience or from manually downloading them online. the PC shuts itself down during installation. I am then unable to post the machine - it restarts for a few seconds then shuts down again. The same will happen if I press the power button.

Removing the card and running off the iGPU causes the PC to boot normally again.

Why is this happening, and how can I prevent it?

So the PSU can't support a 19W 710, yet it can support a 30+W GT 730, a card which is available as an option from the factory?

Your card uses more power than 260W power supply can provide.

the power supply is proprietary

the ONLY card that you can use is 8CCF1. dell GT1030

or

Non dell GT1030

Non Dell cards will require Secure boot OFF in bios

There are no upgrades for the power supply

This card is better but ONLY fits in actual Mini tower.

Which form factor of the 3070 do you have? The PSU varies from model to model.

I've got the mini tower with the standard 260W

Your power supply does not support your card.

Its trying to draw too much power.

So this GT 710 won't work, but an OEM Dell 1030 or any other 1030 will, correct?

Thanks for the help

Many GT710 720 730 cards are wired x1 or x4 which would cause them to draw too much power from the slot.

in genera these cards wont ever work.

I have provided options that work and do not require new power supply

The optional cards you list must be dell where they change the design to prevent too much power draw from the slot.

Low profile cards are required for non MINI TOWER
