Optiplex 380 CPU Upgrade To Q6600
Hey, so i have an Optiplex 380 and i just ordered a Core2 Quad Q6600 to it, in the pc i have changed psu to a 400w, added a grapics card (GTX 750) and changed to 8gb of ram.
Im just wondering if i could change the cpu without having trouble, i updated the bios and i have cut out a hole from the side panel for better airflow, is it going to work?

Be sure to check out any YouTube videos on CPU upgrades in Optiplex 380's and thermal paste placement.
I don't know for sure if the Q6600 will work in a 780. It's not listed in the Optiplex 380 Tech Guide. Though the Tech Guide goes as far back as the 380, CPUID's aren't the same for the Q6600 and a listed CPU like the Q9650.
Make sure your 400w PSU has as much, if not more power on all the rails as the one you replaced. While a PSU might boast more total wattage, and may have more power on the 12v rail(s), they can often fall shorter than a Dell PSU on the 3.3v & 5v rails. If you're already running on the new PSU, then you're probably good to go.
