Others have the same issue.

Did You try to update from 1.3.117 directly to 1.5.1?

Hi @hasfazal,

It looks like you tested out the various versions of BIOS with no luck.  So no, you're not missing anything.  Even if you jumped and skipped a couple versions of BIOS, it was older model Optiplex's that had to be done in steps.  For example, from A09 to A22 would require just a couple of steps in between.

As for the fan issue, I've been on this forum 3.5 years and haven't seen a memorable solution, except to rollback BIOS until Dell fixes fan issue in a newer version.

Not Dell endorsed, you may have heard of HWiNFO64 and SpeedFan.  Those haven't seemed to work for users.  From feedback, it sounds like all you get is a fixed speed. So, too low and overheat issues can arise.  But you're still welcome to experiment if you wish.

Also, there's Dell's How to Trouble Shoot Fan Issues, but that hasn't seemed to help either.

In that way, I'm letting you and other users know I've been around the block with it some, and I'm sure other community members as well.

I even heard of scaling back CPU to 99%, then possibly changing it back.

Also heard of cases of thermal paste issues, not enough or none.  Yet, your machine was working fine until BIOS updates came along.

We tried reaching you on a private message asking for the Service Tag number to ascertain the warranty but did not receive a response. Please feel free to reply to the private message whenever you are available.

Hi,

Thanks for the great feedback and apologies for the late reply.

Yes i have gone back to 1.3.1 where the fan speed is working okay. My main concern was that Dell claimed to have fixed this issue in 1.5.1 however it doesn't seem the case at all.

It is detailed in the release notes but does not give detail into what has changed or been fixed. As people have previously said before the machine is disturbingly loud if going to any of the new releases of the BIOS and i do not really want to be using 3rd party software to scale back or fix fan speeds.

I have raised this as a technical support request but all they have come back with so far is to try and update to the latest BIOS by stepping through all the version in-between incrementally which i had originally done.

It appears that updating bios might change the power setting.  Check control panel -> power options, set it to "balanced".  Worked on my system...
