Optiplex 7010 MT Unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Failed)
I think this is a common issue, but I've tried different suggestions and the constant alerts have followed my 7010 to an upgrade to Win11. I can disable the phantom USB device and I might not hear the alerts for a while, but it comes back. Hopefully, someone has found the ultimate fix.

@CEG3 "Telling me that is a bit demeaning, since I have 3 9010's running 11 perfectly and I even have 11 Pro running on an Asus Chromebox that other than running a little warm works well."
The post keeps looping back to WIN11 which is not released. No Idea what is indicated by the statement that windows 10 works fine is a bit demeaning. There are zero issues running 10 on 3010 7010 9010 with correct drivers and latest bios.
Windows PE Deployment
There are bios updates that include secure boot and all of the hardware is supported on 10 using the 7010 windows 10 Driver cab once extracted with 7zip.
Optiplex 7010 drivers
Windows 10 drivers are saved in .cab archive format for lossless data compression and embedded digital certificates.
https://www.7-zip.org/download.html
You cannot point to an exe, zip, cab file when installing drivers for windows 7,8,10,11.
This is why you download the cab to the my documents folder and then extract here using 7zip.
Once thats done you right click device manager and indicate update drivers from my pc instead of the internet. All of the non native drivers for windows will install offline with extracted cab file in the documents library.

windows 11 is not supported on the 7010 and its not released aka its the insider edition.
There are driver cab files that must be extracted with 7zip with the cab file in the my documents folder.

There are quite a few drivers in the cab file not native to windows 10 or 11

What? This isn't about compatibility with 11, which I have running on several machines that at one time were not compatible, but are in the inside program and when MS drops the TPM 2.0 nonsense they will all run just fine, just as they do on 10. This has been going on for two years and the reason to mention 11 was because it was still a problem after that update. If we start worrying compatibility with 11 too much half the users on the net will be incompatible. Lots of all Optiplexes working like champs.

@CEG3
if its not about 11 then what is the
" followed my 7010 to an upgrade to Win11" about?
Microsoft is taking a hard line on TPM 2.0 which I agree is nonsense but they don't seem to be backing down.
Many Federal, State, Local Governments and schools etc have many thousands of 3010 7010 9010 models that run windows 8 and 10 just fine but are not working with windows 11. Most of those groups will not be ready to buy all new hardware because Microsoft decided that they must do this.

If you read my response you will have read that I only mentioned 11, because the problem was still there when I upgraded to 11. I wasn't going to upgrade this particular machine right away, but thought that maybe an major update would fix whatever the issue is. It did not.
This isn't the discussion I was looking for. The web is full of ideas people have posted for solving this issue that has been around for some time. I am not interested in whether or not my machine is compatible with 11. I had just hoped maybe there was somebody out there, who actually fixed this on their machine years ago. This is the first Optiplex I've had this issue with and I've been using old machines for a very long time. Getting caught up in the fine details of 11 aren't going to help me. In my situation 11 is irrelevant, since this began on 10 a couple of years ago. There is probably some registry tweak out there. I think we all know about what machines are technically not compatible with 11. Telling me that is a bit demeaning, since I have 3 9010's running 11 perfectly and I even have 11 Pro running on an Asus Chromebox that other than running a little warm works well. MS is trying to sell PC's and they certainly are well aware how upset people are with them and aren't going to go away quietly. They may yet relent and if they don't 10 works just as well and will be supported for at least 4 more years. I could roll back to 10, if I haven't deleted the files, and my issue would be the same.

Your response was like a customer service rep telling someone they need to reset their Roku to fix a problem, which is their default response to any question.
As I said I didn't want this conversation and I don't enter forums to trade comments. Consider this issue closed. I will accept your response as the solution, as I don't want to spend any more time debating with you.
