Optiplex 7020 SFF mobo differences with a 9020? Advantages?
Hello. I’m currently running a 7020 SFF with the i5 4590 with 16GB of crucial ballistic vlp (4gb x 4). I have wanted to upgrade to the i7 4790 for a while now. I was also thinking about purchasing a 9020 motherboard to use the 4790. What would some of the advantages be of the 9020? Is my 7020 limited to 16gb of ram? Thank you for your time and stay safe out there! Bart

Thank You! It looks like since they both support 32gb of RAM now there really isn’t a difference. Now if only the 4790 didn’t cost so much!

when comparing spec of 9020 w 7020, they look almost identical.
even though 7020 spec memory max is 16, with latest bios it supports 4x8 GB too. Plenty of examples on line. https://us.refurb.io/products/dell-optiplex-7020-tower-core-i7-4770-3-4ghz-32gb-1tb-240gb-ssd-dvd-rw-wi-fi-win-10-pro
memory spec 9020: Up to 4 DIMM slots (2 for USFF); Non-ECC dual-channel 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM, up to 32GB
7020: Up to 4 DIMM slots; Non-ECC dual-channel 1600MHz DDR3 SDRAM, supports up to 16GB.
