Do you have similar overheat issue as described?

This is similar to what I am seeing happen. However the behavior does not happen with Restarts. It seems to only occur when system goes into sleep state.

I have had a few systems do this, all with different configurations for connected peripherals and some without any peripherals connected at all. I believe the issue has something to do with USB-C connection to monitor and sleep states not being recognized. The original system had a printer attached and was the faulting unit before the system would hang. Others had no USB device attached other than the monitor and systems would go into sleep state and next morning would be overheating with high fans. No way to correct issue other than completely powering off system by disconnecting power adapter.

*UPDATE*

I have a work around that is keeping everything running by Blocking Sleep in the BIOS. This obviously is not the solution I would like, but I don't have a system that I can test with to figure out a root cause and solution.

What appears to happen is when Windows reaches the time to enter sleep according to Power settings, certain USB drivers will not put the device into sleep state, or the device will continue to draw power while the system is in a sleep state, causing the system to overheat and become unresponsive.

I have seen this behavior with a web cam attached, a printer, or a smart card reader. It does not seem to be isolated to one particular device. All devices are connected directly to the 7090 Ultra, which would lead me to believe that the USB Hub Controller is what would be at fault.

I have had two system get a new motherboard and have the problem persist.

Do you track the temperature records of your processor, e.g. via app like HWiNFO until it overheated and system shutdown by itself? Mine, it was the processor that overheated. I suspect USB too but no idea how it can fry the processor, perhaps some instructions running at the back, keep stressing the processor until it gets overheated.

Hi

We have the same problem, and this is waht we set so we don't have this problem any more.
We change Power mode from Best power efficency to Balanced

Settings>Power>Power mode>Balanced

We have Optiplex 7090 with similar symptoms. If a monitor is not connected or connected but powered off, the machine will exhibit these symptoms.
During a RDP session to a PC that has no monitor, minimizing the RDP session for a few minutes will result in dropped ping responses from the target and eventually will terminate the RDP session. From this state, pinging and attempting to reconnect within a short period will allow a connection to be reestablished. However if this is left in this state for a couple of hours, the system is locked and a manual power-cycle is required. This is likely the same thing we get if a user powers off their monitor(s) when rebooting for the night. A RDP session may be established shortly after the reboot, but after several hours the machine is unresponsive and requires a manual power-cycle. No idea what is causing it. We just know if we leave a powered on monitor connected to the PC we don't have these issues.

We have many Optiplex 7090 exhibiting similar systems.  I was just working on one yesterday, and the power LEDs are on, but the USB keyboard doesn't light up nor does the monitor display anything (which are always connected).  I have to wait until the unit cools down and power it back on before it starts working (multiple back-to-back power cycles and hard reboots don't work until it is cooled down).  We also have the Micros mounted under tables utilizing a Dell Micro mount

Our PCs are set to never sleep, just the monitors are allowed to go to standby.

Are there any other suggestions or upcoming fixes to address this?
