Optiplex 9020 video/BIOS issue

I have an Optiplex 9020 MT running Windows 10 Pro with an i7-4790, 16GB DDR3, and an 8600GT. The BIOS and Dell splash boot screen do not show up, but Windows works fine. When I remove the GPU and use the integrated video, the BIOS and boot screen come up, but not with the video card. I updated the BIOS to version A24 (The latest on the driver page) and nothing. I know it's not a huge issue, but it is a pain if I need to check the bios I have to get a VGA monitor an hook it up. Any help is appreciated!

My home built system with an ASUS motherboard does the same thing. It is because you have the integrated GPU active as well as the GPU card. That is why when you remove the video card, the Dell splash screen shows up. If it bothers you, and it did me, disable the integrated video on the system.

These might help. A different model on the first link but similar BIOS settings.

The A24 [2022q4/current] BIOS does allow an option under "Video" to set the Primary Video Card, and a selection between available video cards, so maybe for example if like me you have the onboard/integrated [iGPU] "Intel HD Graphics" disabled in Windows and don't plug anything into the motherboard video ports, then i would suggest to set the dGPU[via PCIe] to be the Primary, this will prevent any bios/post/setup/option/log/logo/splash from being sent to an empty port.

It appears that natively the BIOS does not allow the iGPU (integrated) to be deactivated at the root level, or allow to have another card to replace it as "Default" There is a 3rd choice for Auto, but not a Disable at BIOS level.

dGPU (dedicated GPU&RAM)
iGPU (integrated GPU/CPU&RAM)
eGPU (external/wired GPU)

Apparantly it is possible to deactivate it at BIOS level, untested however.

<ADMIN NOTE: Broken link has been removed from this post by Dell>
NOTE: If the ‘Primary display’ setting is set to the "Auto" selection with an expansion graphics adapter installed, the Intel Integrated Graphics adapter will be disabled and will not appear in device manager. Selecting any other primary display option will enable the Intel Graphics Adapter which will then appear in device manager.
