Optiplex 9030 only works as External Monitor

Hello,

I have a Optiplex 9030 AIO that the screen remains black, but I can hear the computer starting up. I tried unplugging, and discharging it. I tried getting into boot menu and set up screens with no luck.

But when I plug it in as an external monitor it works perfectly fine.

Any suggestions would be appreciated?

Replace cmos battery w a brand new cr2032 and look for rtcrst or clear cmos jumper on motherboard to clear cmos settings.  That is if you feel comfortable opening up the back cover to service the inside.

Attached monitor is likely dead.  Little fan(s) and monitor attached to PC have made for some heat issues   I also had an AIO a monitor died on, and the same thing, I could hook an external monitor to it and the external monitor worked.

I tried doing this and I'm still not getting any output on the monitor.

The optiplex works fine as a external monitor. It's when its being used as a pc that I'm not getting any output.

I was thinking of it the other way for some reason.  First I heard of an AIO working as an external monitor, but not as a PC.

Could be 1 of 2 things I'm thinking.  CPU has the integrated graphics.  Yet, it's still rare for one of those to go.  2nd idea is that it could be the MB.  Can't diagnose from here.

If you can on that model, make sure all internal connections are tight.  The PC/MB still has to connect to the monitor.
