Optiplex 990 system is not detecting asus 650gtx video card

Power supply is 650watts

Bios doesn't have advance options to enable or disable onboard graphics and other video options

There is no option for secure boot

O990 A24 installed

Tried UEFI and just reinstalled legacy with Windows 7 pro

Tried the video card on a non dell desktop and it is working

Not sure what else to try?

Why is this such a common issue for dell ?

If desktop was meant for business only, it should be versatile to accept any video card.  DELL sells top computers and that's all we have at work but I cant fathom why is this an issue.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated how I can fix this or not.

Optiplex is a business computer not for suitable for upgrading or using for gaming. Even with the upgraded psu.

Having 2 pci Express slots gives the user the chance to upgrade I would think, I guess they are limited in functionality set by Dell.

This is not a common issue.

I have a SHORT EVGA GTX 970 in the 990 tower that I am writing this post on.

POWER SUPPLIES are not a single spec of WATTS and a single voltage of 12V.

Either your card is a FAKE GTX 650 or your power supply DOES NOT PROVIDE enough power on all of the rails needed.  SPECIFICALLY 3.3V/5V combined needing to be 146w or greater.

On dell 850w units these rails combined go UP TO 225w and over 25Amps on each of the rails.

EVGA SUPER NOVA 700B1 or 750B1 works fine.  B2 B3 BQ G2 N1 W1 ETC versions from the SAME VENDOR DO NOT WORK and will not ever work because those rails have 20A and 120w OR LESS combined on those rails.  This is like CORSAIR TX series vs CX series same deal. Corsair TX 650 works fine but CX650 DOES NOT.

This is the reason why the 750N1 is less than $60 and the 750B1 is OVER $100

I have seen supposed 750W units for $29 but I would never recommend those because they are fake fraud and will burn up everything.

 700 B1

The PCI-E slot specifically uses the 3.3V Rails at 25 amps.

You are correct with the power distribution however you are wrong to assume the video card is fake.

So the video card is not getting enough power and it doesn't have a pci-e power connector to get power directly from the power supply and it is not getting enough power from the motherboard.

75W of 3.3v power is 23 AMPS on the 3.3v rails alone.

Optiplex 990 with GTX 1050TI and EVGA 750 B1 power supplyOptiplex 990 with GTX 1050TI and EVGA 750 B1 power supply

Thats why when the spec of the unit says 20A instead of 25A or more on the 3.3v rail and combined power is 100w or 120W instead of 146W combined this is a problem. 20A on the 5v rail = 100w

There are ZERO issues on a 990 TOWER using good power supply with GTX 550, 650, 750, 950, 1050, 1060 etc as long as they are the short version of the card.
