You break away the panels with Cross in them by poking them with large screwdriver.
If you decide you need it closed again you need a filler panel. You cant put them back and they are VERY sharp so don't cut yourself.

Did you check the service manual? OptiPlex 3080 Tower Service Manual (dell.com)
Non removable panels are there for a reason. Open the computer to see why. Take all safety precautions.

I thought that was the way, just wanted to check.
Does seem odd they have a usable slot covered in this way, must be a financial decision..

the metal is very sharp
