Server ram functionality in optiplex 790

On ebay, in seattle, DDR3 4x4GB RAM is currently priced at around $50-60 ish, but server RAM seems to be a lot cheaper. Correct me if Im wrong, but Im pretty sure my Dell Optiplex 790 MT with an i5 2500 doesnt support 8gb DIMMS, so I have to get 4x4GB dimms. I see that server RDIMM ECC ram is priced much lower, and seems to be DDR3 16GB 4x4 RAM, I wonder, will this "server" RAM function normally in my PC, I know that if it did, the ECC part wouldnt work, but other than that, would it work like normal RAM in my optiplex?
