Using WOL to wake an Optiplex 755 running WIN7 32bit
Hi, I have just replaced a 755 with another of the same after a PSU/Motherboard failure.
The original responded to WOL magic packets from shutdown but the replacement only responds from sleep and not shutdown which is a pain.
The OS+software is all the same - but the BIOS is A22. I notice there is no mention of WOL, PME in the driver capabilities. The device is configured to wake the system.
I have heard a rumour that Dell have moved away from WOL to some other system.
Is there a version of the BIOS available that will reinstate WOL ??? Or perhaps it is a driver issue.
I really do not want to recraft 20 odd machines to fix this for 1.
Any help/advice very welcome,
Dave

Solved it ... I had forgotten to change the MAC Address parameter to the call to the "WOLit" app (most WOL apps use the MAC address) - the other way is to "spoof" the MAC address of the failed system in the new adapters settings.

WOL and AMT are options. The version you have may not have that option.
Bios version has nothing whatsoever to do with WOL or AMT etc.

AMT may be an option but as far as I am aware Wake on Lan has been a MS requirement for WHQL testing for everything up to XP and Server and poss WIn7 - things may have changed of course ...
