The motherboard does not have the pins required. Also, you would have to modify/cut the front bezel which would remove the warranty on it. Why would you need a physical button for something that the operating system already provides to you?

Hi Chris - thanks for your reply. You've confirmed what I found - there are no pins for rebooting! Yes, the OS does offer reboot/shutdown options, but on a few occasions when they've not been accessible - and Ctrl+Alt+Del fails - a reboot button would be ideal.

My PC is well out of warranty so any mod would be OK.

Kind regards, Niloc1017

Reset button is not a mod or feature.

Modern windows would become corrupted if the user had the ability to press reset when irritated by the preparing updates DO NOT TURN OFF message.

I 2nd what speedstep said. It isn't a good practice to use that reset button most of the time. If you are frozen up and C+A+D won't work, simply holding the power button to power down, then waiting just a second or two, then powering back up works.

I suppose the reset button is a nice convenience to bypass that process though. Most aftermarket rigs still have the feature.

OP you are very confused

I guess you meant HW reset,  (all windows and BIOS have programmable power button) if you looked.

The button can be set to (use the correct words) sleep/ power off or do nothing. (most PCs have this)

go to F2 BIOS and read the page on POWER, see it?

note that RESET is not a choice, now that ended log ago. (hardware reset is gone)(my new z270 has it but is never wired by me and for w10 is must be unwired)

w7 ends jan 2020 , forget w7 is best. ok?  zero support w7 soon, ok?

w10 loads (fast startup) from cached, images now. (if enabled) and must not be HW RESET.

"Ctrl+Alt+Del fails - a reboot button would be ideal." not true NOW and the AC cord does this removed easy,

if the 3 finger solute(3FS) fails, that means the OS is corrupted. and that is what is cured next not  adding 20 reset traces too all chips on the MOBO now GONE. sorry they  are GONE now, this is not 1995.

the reasons 3FS FAILS are (top causes) short list . (we have the tools to find all this even scopes)

  1. corrupted OS or corrupted drivers. (sleep modes failing hard locks a PC UP)
  2. bad hdd making the OS corrupted, super super common running any rust  HDD over 5 years. ok?
  3. keyboard battery died, (wireless) a simple fix.
  4. CPU overheated and now newer GPU , both shut down hot, 90c is par level of shutdown.
  5. Bad PSU, bad caps in PSU and tons of 40KHz chopper noise (SMPS) on a RAIL, making CHIPS FAIL.
  6. ESD or lightening  near hits ,causes PC to LATCH up. do the long hard reset told on all OEM SITES.
  7. if the keyboard USB leds are all dead?, caps lock etc, then VBUS is dead,USB power is DEAD. (PSU CAUSED 99%) or using 500mA back lighted LED power hogging keyboard? (or USB shorts)

the PC has an ICH/PCH chip inside the intel South bridge chip and is ACPI , inside too.

ACPI if you hold the powerbutton, for over 4sec, we say 5 to cover intels logic rules hard inside, and when you old the button for 5 seconds and release that button the ICH  goes to Intel ACPI shut down state. S5 !

what else do you need.? but that or the AC line pull,.? wiki ACPI. read.

the only time Ive seen w10 lock up 3 finger solute. is in some windows updates. (I delay mine so never see this)

ACPi.JPG

Most chips now do not have  HW reset pin like in the olden days. (yes some do , and many do not (pins)

the Chips have deep inside now its DIE, a power reset detector and does its own reset now.(deep inside)

note the lack of  reset pin on USB ports,  so there is no way to reset it. vast USB things exist.

but powering it off does that. for sure. (pulling it or at the AC wall jack, long enough and CORRECTLY)

RIP forever, HW RESET WIRING MESS.

APCI G5 state  is  PSU not plugged in to AC wall jack, no 120vac present, the TRUE DEAD POWER STATE>

in fact this is used to do the long power hard reset, G5 done right, ! ask.

yes top boards even z270 have reset pin but MS tells you clear as day DO NOT USE THIS PIN.

the PIN is for OTHER OS. if at all, OK?

if for sure kills faststart . feature, and causes corruption of the OS, covered fully at MS dot com.
