Windows 10 problems

After upgrading to Windows 10 on my OptiPlex 990 I started having problems with my printer and scanner.  After almost 2 hours on the phone with Windows level 2 support everything seemed to work just fine except I could not scan directly from my HP printer. I had to use the Windows 10 scan app. However, after the KB4532693 & KB4524244 updates I started having various problems.  By spending quite some time on the MS communities I have been able to fix all but one problem.

I have every setting I am aware of set to keep the monitors from dimming or going to sleep as well as keeping the computer itself from hibernating (I changed that setting using the command prompt), sleeping or shutting down.  However, with all of that said, the computer still goes to sleep, some times even I am in the middle of working on something. I say sleeping, it may be hibernating, the screens, I have 3 monitors, go black and it will not come back to life with the keyboard or mouse.  The only way I can get back up is to shut i down manually with the power button and then boot it up.

Everything usually comes back right to where I was working, which is a good thing.

I am the IT tech/manager for a small town in Florida and have been doing this for 9 years and have never run into anything like this before.  I want to blame it on the update but I can't be 100% sure and I read where the update was causing different problems with HP and Dell computers so I thought I would check here.

I know this turned into a long post but I wanted to try and get everything in it.

Thanks,

Clyde

Many people prefer clean installation of Windows 10 instead of upgrading.

I have done both, and I would much rather do a clean installation if I can. My 2 cents worth.

Make sure the printer-scanner is connected to the router and NOT to any computer on the network. Scanners cannot be shared like printers when connected to a diff computer. Connecting it to the router allows it to be shared on the network. See HP or scanner support for help connecting the printer scanner to the network.

Changing Power Settings must be done in Power Options, Additional settings, Power Plan. It cannot be permanently set from a command prompt. Right click on the start button to get to Power Options.

Edit--most of the problems you have with windows 10 are caused by the fact that the 990 is not suitable for running window 10. There are no windows 10 drivers for the 9 yr old model.

Something speedstep has noted more than once is Optiplex's going back to the GX620 run Win10 just fine.  Not supported (because Dell didn't test it) doesn't mean not working.

Whether one has a 755, 790, and so on - drivers can still be obtained from Dell Support Assist - graphics drivers...chipset drivers... and so on.  I'm not saying the drivers are specifically for Win 10, but they are specific to the PC model and they work.
