The M.2 slot on the 7070 tower is a gen 3 so you will not see the fastest speeds that a gen 4 would offer. The Samsung drive will work but at gen 3. Keeping that in mind it may be worth it to go down to a gen 3 SSD which would save you some money. The advantage to having the Samsung gen 4 SSD is that down the road if you upgrade to a system that supports gen 4, you can move that drive to the new system.

A double-check:  While @doctor wesam mentioned "7080" and @JOcean "7070," the 7080 is still limited to Gen 3.

From the Optiplex 7090 Spec Sheet:

Here you'll see quite a few Gen4 compatible SSD's:  Optiplex 7000 Spec Sheet.pdf

Optiplex 5000 Spec Sheet

5000 is also Gen4.

I couldn't find a reliable source for a 3000 spec sheet.  Couldn't find info on if Gen3, Gen4, or both elsewhere.

Thanks Brad. I have got to double check the Google search engine. And double check my glasses prescription.

Ha ha.  You're welcome.  I still need bifocals.

May be you might have better luck finding something on the 3000 that indicates if it's Gen4 or not?
