@optiplex_man

"10600U DDR3 and do not support 12800 is false"

XMP is not supported.  Ram speed depends on cpu.

Booting 10 must be done from hdd for bios update.

PSU is likely bad.  At startup, go into the F12 Boot & Diagnostics menu.  Arrow down to Diagnostics.  Run it.  This doesn't necessarily test PSU as it does other hardware, but if PC shuts off during, PSU is definitely bad.

Not sure if this was the actual problem, but I pulled all 4 memory modules and attempted post with each individual stick in DIMM 1. There was one module that seemed to be causing the problem, by itself and with the others. Once I put the remaining 3 and a different module in it booted up just fine and is stable like my other optiplexes.

It seems a little random to me, but I've had other machines do weird things with bad ram as well. This 980 was part of a lot that was dropped off for recycling. I like to keep these machines for single-drive NAS units and small servers because of their robust build and component quality. For accuracy, I tried the proclaimed "bad" stick in one of my working 990 Minitowers and it did the exact same thing. Odd.

Glad you got it working.  Often I've mentioned try one RAM stick at a time.  But the error code threw me off a bit.  Normally, there's one error code, not two, unless something else is wrong.

I will see how long it holds up, it is working fine now. The front panel diagnostic lights were displaying 3 and 4 which according to the guide are having to do with a memory power failure. I also got number 1 which meant the board was dead, but it's clearly not

You did mention power supplies. The PSUs in these 980 SFF units in particular seem to run pretty toasty. The air coming out the back is rather warm and the units are hot to the touch. I'm running these with the 65w i5 650 and no video card, so I'm not sure what else it would be. They are not even rated 80+ as far as I'm concerned, there's no badge on the sticker. Are they supposed to run warm or are they just overused and failing? I have a few ancient Precision 490 workstations that run hot, but that's expected since they draw over 500+ watts when under load.

As for PSU temp - Is the inside of the 980 clean?  If so, might not be anything to worry about.  I noticed my PSU will run warm depending on CPU load and any drives.

Sometimes a bad battery will cause confusing error codes.  But you already replaced it, so I'm not sure why you're still getting errors.  If the inside is clean and it runs ok, I'm sure it's ok to keep using.
