Convert Poweredge 2650
Need little help with this
I looking to buy 2 dell poweredge 2650 to convert in to rack mount work stations one to be used for running Vuritual DJ and the second to run a program called freesyler DMX we were looking at 19" rack mount poweredges as they would look quite neat in a flight case and will look better then turning up and setting laptops up
The First poweredge i will need to fit a 7.1 PCI-X Soundcard and a good graphics card that will allow me dual screen i would like them running windows 7 or XP OS
Ive seen number of post on people trying to put better graphics cards in poweredge 2650 and having problems has anyone worked out how to do this
if so can some one please explain if i can work this out i can make my purchase and get me two of these
The Second dose not need a sound or graphics the onboard graphics should be good enoth just needs windows 7 or XP and Freestyler DMX this one will be used to run intelligent lights

While these would look cool, they're heavy and probably won't work well for what you're trying to do. I used to manage a couple racks of these and no one ever had any success plugging in graphics cards to these.
You're also going to run into problems trying to find WIndows 7 drivers for these boxes. They're server-class machines and Dell never ported the desktop operating systems to them.
You might be better off building a PC from scratch in a rack mount case. You can see a number of them here. You can get ones that hold standard ATX motherboards and build a system with any graphics card and sound card you want. If you really want to have fun, you can get lights and things to add to the case here.
Note - I'm not connected with Directron, I'm just a satisified customer and have seen their case mod selection.

Hi thanks
Your advice was spot on and thanks glad i researched it first before grabbing to cheap one off eBay
I found 2 identical antec 2u case with Intel atx 915gev motherboard and 2.8ghz dual core processors Windows XP Pro ive got one hooked up with 8channel sound blaster and ATi HD4550 Graphics card ive test the system and working perfectly this going to look lot smarter then tuning up with all our kit in nice flight cases then pulling out laptop that could not process it way out of a soggy paper bag
the second is for running our DMX512 lighting so that set with just Wifi PCI card ive then networked the two of them to share Internet connection
