Dell PowerEdge R710 COMM Port issue with connecting to Cisco Switch Console
Hi,
We have tried to configure some Cisco 3750 Switches via console cable connected to a Dell PowerEdge R710 server. Every time you launch Putty and press Enter to get console output nothing happens except for a green block in the top left corner of the console window.
Now, I have tried Secure CRT and this didn't work either. The onsite engineer connected those same switches to his laptop and could connect fine and cot a Login prompt from the switches without any problem.
Another thing I noticed is that if I open Putty on any of the other servers we have (PowerEdge R710's) I get the same blank terminal window with green cursor but nothing is connected to the Comm port.
Now our problem is that these servers are in a secure facility and we have no access to them or the switch/routers we are trying to configure for an additional MPLS link and they will not allow us to connect a laptop to them for a few days so this needs to be done remotely.
Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?
Thanks in advance.

Assuming you're in Windows, check the device manager to see if it sees a COM1 as well as a COM2. On this system I recently worked on, the (only) external port on that Dell server turned out to be COM2. So I'd suggest to try COM2 if the device manager shows that to exist.
