Dell Server R430 CPU temperature high at idle - 55 degree Celcius

I just have bought 02 new Dell R430 1U servers on October 2016 (2 x Xeon E5-2630v3, 64 GBRAM and 04 SAS harddisks). BIOS and iDRAC have been updated to the newest versions (BIOS: 2.2.5. and iDRAC 2.41.40.40). The installed OS is Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Server without any extra service (LAMP, PostgreSQL,...)

When in idle status (both servers):

- CPU1 and CPU2 temperatures: 55oC (but System Board Inlet Temp still 27oC). When I touch the chassis at back panel, it's rather warm.

- Ambient temperature: 18oC

- Fans speed: 1560 RPM (except Fan2A and 2B at 2100 RPM)

- Power consumtion: 77 Watt

- Themarl profile: Default Themal Profile Setting

- Fan speed offset: Off

- BIOS -> System Profile Setting -> Performance Per Watt (DAPC) , C1E -Enabled, C State - Enabled

When I set Fan speed offset to "Low Fan speed (+35%), the fans run at 7500 RPM and the CPU temperature go down to 40oC.

So how can I lower down the CPU temperature to about 30oC, I dont think that 55oC is normal. I have other IBM x3650 M3. Their CPU temperatures is about 35oC in average load.

Hello

Everything you described is normal. The system is working as intended. The thermal limit on modern Intel CPUs is areound 90c.

Thanks

Thank you Daniel,

But I still feel uncomfortable because when I touch the chassis at the back side, it's not hot but it's rather warm. My other older servers do not have this circumstance. Is the Dell R730 2U cooler than this R430 1U?

Finally, I set the fan minimum speed is 15% (3800RPM) and everything seem right. The chassis is not warm like before. Maybe the  fan speed  default setting  is low in the case of my ambient temperature,
