Embedded server management error

Hi All,

I'm having a nightmare, i've just got a PE2650 at a really good price but its got a problem

On startup im getting "Embedded server management error"

This same error has been on the forum before

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/956/t/18962731.aspx

My Bios is A21, i have flashed the remote access controller but when i try to flash the ESM i get "Baseboard Management Controller is not available"

i have tried flashing the ESM using windows command line, Dos and the update package with no success

Please Help??

Additional Information

The server will boot and i have managed to install windows server 2003, but the fans running at full speed and the ugly "F1 to continue or F2 to setup" measn this server cannot be run to purpose as i only intend to manage it by RDP with no Keyboard, Mouse or Monitor attached

I have tried all methods of flashing the ESM but every attempt just gives me "Baseboard managment controller is not available"

I have installed the dell openmanage package on the web page there is no mention of either "Baseboard Management Controller" or "Embedded Server Management"

I have updated the remote access controller to 3.35 using the two floppy disks

I have attempted to use racadm but i'm a little new to it and i received an error stating that there was no configuration to read

I am new to this and its a bit of a learning curve, but at this time i do not know if i'm "Flogging a dead donkey" or heading in the right direction

Hi thankyou for the reply

Since my last post i have tried both of the above

Neither has worked and i did suspect that the riser card may be at fault,

I did try inserting pci cards into the riser which were picked up and recognised immediately

I'm baffled...

Power down and reseat the riser card - runs along left (from front) side - with expansion slots on it.

If that doesn't work, clear the NVRAM using the jumpers on the motherboard (you will then need to boot to BIOS to re-enable the RAID controller - ignore the scary message about data loss).

If neither of these things work, then I would contact the person you bought it from for a replacement.
