HOW TO UPDATE BIOS POWEREDGE 2850

It's my first time to set up dell Poweredge 2850 servers. Could somebody help me or give me the STEP BY STEP guide on how to UPDATE the BIOS from AO2 to AO7? We are running on VMWare ESXi 4.1. Actually i have managed to config RAID and i have already set up 2 Virtual Machines (Windows Server 2008 R2) and its only updating the BIOS and Firmware that is left. I know where to download the latest updates but i just dont know how or where to start? DRAC4 is working. Im using vSphere Client. I have Dell OpenManage Server Manager and Dell IT Assitant installed on one of the VMs on the server but i think they're not working properly as im having problems with credentials/logging in.

Albert,

You will need to have the BUU (Build and Update Utility) or the SMTD (System Mgt Tools and Docs).

If you don't have either then use the BUU as it is a smaller download.

BUU -www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

You will need the SUU (Server Update Utility)

Download these 3 files

www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails

www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails

www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails

Use this command to merge the 3 files into a single ISO.

copy /b om*  om651_suu_a00.iso

After you have those two disks burned (BUU and SUU) then follow the email walkthrough I sent you.

Hi Chris,

Im currently downloading the BUU and the SUU. Where will i issue the "copy /b om*  om651_suu_a00.iso" command? Is that in the command prompt (cmd)? Thanks for the information and links that you have provided.

The instructions are listed on the Download page for each ISO, under Installation Instructions.  Put all ISO's in an empty folder (say, C:\Users\username\Desktop\isofiles), then run the "copy /b" command in the Command Prompt (cmd) in the folder where you put them.
