How can I get the Asset Tag Number or Service Tag number from within DOS?

I have over 200 plus machines in our organization and I would like to automatically get the service tag number from the machine durnig the user login.  Do you have a DOS utility that I can pull the services tag number from the BIOS?

I have tried the asset.com but it does not work.  I have systems ranging from DOS to Windows 2003 and machine that are days old to years old.

Any Ideas?????

Hi,

The Asset Tag utility is the only DOS tool we have for viewing / changing the Service Tag Number. There are different versions, this is one which works on PowerEdge Servers:

The asset.com utility can be found on our FTP site in the Utility directory:
ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/utility/assetA00.exe

Directions for entering a Service Tag Number:

1. Create the Asset Tag utility diskette from the download above - or from the Dell OpenManage Server Assistant CD (DOSA)
2. After making the diskette, perform a safe reboot to the diskette created in step #1.
3. After booting to the diskette, enter the following command (substitute the actual 5-7 digit system Service Tag for the X's); asset /s XXXXXXX
4. Once this action has completed, the system can be rebooted.

I would also like to download the DOS-based Asset Tag utility, but our company prevents ftp access.  Is there an HTML-based download location for the Asset Tag utility for PowerEdge servers?

What about those of us who gave up floppy drives long ago? Is there a way for me to set my Service Tag another way?
