Memory Question about PowerEdge T310

Hello,

I'm running a PowerEdge T310 and was wondering if this:

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Desktop-Memory-CMZ32GX3M4X1600C10/dp/tech-data/B0068ZWZY0/ref=de_a_smtd

is compatible to run on it? I know that the speed is 1600mhz but wasn't sure if this would cause issues.

I'd appreciate all your help.

Thank you,

John Rizk

John, the T310 only supports up to a 1333MhZ dimm. I wouldn't suggest or recommend installing dimms that are not within the specs of the server.

No, it won't work.  The T310 requires ECC memory ... it can be Registered (RDIMM) or Unbuffered (UDIMM), but it must be ECC.

So this would basically be a perfect match? :D

Manual covers the population rules (some are Dell-specific, but most are Intel requirements):

www.dell.com/.../poweredge-t310

Your second link should work (Registered).

You first link won't work (Unbuffered), because the T310 does not support UDIMM's larger than 2GB.  None of Dell's docs, including BIOS update release notes, indicate that larger DIMM support was ever added, however, Crucial.com is selling 4GB DIMM's for the T310 that they guarantee to work, although there is no such indication that an 8GB DIMM would work.  Docs list the UDIMM max as 8GB (4x2GB), and a max of 32GB (4x8GB) with RDIMM's.
