Mix 10 and 15K RPM drives?

Is it okay to mix 15k drives with a 10k array? We want to order some spare drives and since we have both 15k and 10k arrays I was figuring I could order just 146gb 15k drives (that will cover the majority of our disk sizes) rather then having to keep two different spindle speeds around. Thanks

You can mix just fine. Obviously the throughput will be capped by the slowest common denominator in a given raid container.

Also, you may want to make your hotspares 15k drives, or a drive failure would slow down the 15k rpm raid setup.

Thanks. Thats what I was hoping. All of our server have the same drive speed arrays including the hot spares so no worries there. I just didnt want to have to be purchasing 10k AND 15k drives for cold spares. Thanks again
