The Embedded Server Management (ESM) flash utility is a tool to update firmware(FW) to the Embedded Server Management and all devices connec- ted to it on the system management bus (SMB). The devices currently implemented in the utility are: * Embedded Server Management * System backplane * System power supply paralleling board (PSPB) * Hotplug
As new devices are available, this utility program will be upgraded to support them. The utility is available on an MS-DOS(R) readable diskette containing the following files: * SMFLSH.EXE * SMFLSHNT.EXE * README.TXT * SMSVSTOP.BAT * SMSVSTRT.BAT * CHECKSUM.TXT
The "SMFLSH" utility runs under MS-DOS and "SMFLSHNT" runs under the Microsoft(R) Windows NT(R) operating system. Both utilities includes the binary code for ESM, system backplane, system PSPB and hotplug.
The SMFLSHNT program almost always fails and then you have a dead server. Always use DOS with Good Diskettes and no config.sys or autoexec.bat files.
DO NOT RUN THESE PROGRAMS IN A DOS WINDOW. Boot from DISKETTE MSDOS ONLY.

Thank you sir SpeedStep! While I may be a Future Genius, it would appear you're a current one. I'll let you know if I screw it up or not.

The Power Edge 2300 comes in 2 flavors.
A 440BX motherboard and a 440GX motherboard.
Both will take Coppermine Pentium3's up to and including the 1000Mhz/100mhz FSB coppermine Slot1 CPU.
You update the Bios and ESM from DOS not NT DOS WINDOW. Then you set the speed jumper to the lowest speed and put in whatever cpu you want to use.
The Bios should be Updated to A15. Then the ESM updated.
I use the A41cust.exe file and you must make DOS diskettes to do this.
