PowerEdge 2900 & 2950 problems

I need help please! I know my way around PC's but I'm lost when it comes to servers. Recently I picked up several servers which I planned on setting up in my house. They all came without hard drives, which I have replaced, and I was planning on installing Ubuntu 14.04.2 but I can't get either one of them to boot from the CD drive. I've gone through the setup and made sure the boot sequence starts with the CD but they still don't work. I've even hit f11 during start up and forced it to boot from the CD but they always tell me "no boot device found" or something like that. The first one is a PowerEdge 2900 tower and the other one is a PowerEdge 2950 rack mount. I've gone through 80 pages of forum post here and couldn't find anything that helped. Please help because I don't know what else to do.

Server 2012 has the controller drivers built-in, but have you configured and initialized RAID in the CTRL-R utility?

Does it have a CD or DVD drive? Ubuntu 14 is in DVD format, and CD drives were still standard on 29x0 servers (DVD was available but optional).

Is CD/DVD enabled in the BIOS AND enabled in the boot order (checkmark)?

Ok. I tried a different route. I got Windows Server 2012 downloaded to a USB drive and made sure the boot order starts with the USB first but I still cannot get these servers to boot. What else can I try?

How did you prepare the USB with 2012?

With the Windows 7 USB DVD Download Tool.

That should work ok.

What happens when you try to boot? Does it simply skip everything and stop with "no boot device found F1/F2"?

Ok. I figured out part of my problem. On both the 2900 and the 2950, from the start up menu (F2) and only with a USB drive installed, USB Flash Drive Type must be switched to (Hard disk) which allows the USB
flash drive to act as a hard drive.

So now it starts the install but I can't get past past the part where it asks to (Load driver).

Can anybody help now?

That was my problem. Thank you! I now have my Dell Poweredge 2900 III up and running Windows Server 2012. Now I get to configure my home network and free up space on all the rest of my computers. After that, I'm going to try to setup Ubuntu on my Dell Poweredge 2950 and turn it into a Minecraft server for my kids.

Thanks again and wish me luck with the 2950!
