PowerEdge 2950 II - Cache battery 0 in controller 0 needs attention: Failed (Critical)
Hello,
Nagios reported:
WARNING;SOFT;1;Cache battery 0 in controller 0 is Degraded (Non-Critical) [probably harmless]
WARNING;SOFT;3;Cache battery 0 in controller 0 is Learning (Active) [probably harmless]
And now keeps sending me allerts:
CRITICAL;HARD;5;Cache battery 0 in controller 0 needs attention: Failed (Critical)
Please suggest how to act in this case and how critical it really is.
Haven't met such issue before and any advice will be highly appreciated.

The battery error could be serious. It may also be a false error. Could you tell me what the driver and firmware are listed at for the controller? If they are out of date it can cause the false error, if it is current then we will need to reseat and then replace it if needed.

Thank you. The controller looks to be out of date. What is the OS installed on the server? That way we can update and see if it resolves the issue.

Here is the update you need. This will call for a reboot, so you will want to schedule downtime if needed.
Perc 5/i firmware -
www.dell.com/.../DriverDetails
Run the update and then reseat the battery. If error persists after that then call 800-357-3355 and give them part number DFJRV.

I'm seeing the same issue. Have replaced the battery twice but he message immediately returns. Updated the OMSA and all firmware, still the error persists.
