Unfortunately not.  When powered on, the fans spin up, and then nothing happens.

Kviper97,

Are any of the utility prompts working? Meaning, can you access the BIOS (F2), LC (F10) or Boot Order (F11)?

Let me know if this is the case.

Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done. You will need to replace the motherboard. The Drac needed to be updated prior to the BIOS. Once the update took it that far back it could no longer communicate.

1. I would have been nice for the SUU program to state that the DRAC should have been updated first.

2. I have a second R710 that I have been trying to update the iDRAC6 firmware with, but no method I have found will update it.  It is on version 1.10.  It always fails when when it tries to apply the firmware.

I've tried the GUI, the RACADM, windows DUP, and System Services but have been unsuccessful in getting even 1.11 on it.

*edit*

Also, the DRAC shows up on the LCD on the front of the server, so it appears that it can at least initialize, but I can't reach it remotely on the R710 with the updated BIOS.

And one other thing, it was moving the BIOS forward from 1.2 to 6.4 not downgrading.

Thanks for your help.

On the second 710,

Download and run iDRAC6_1.96_A00_FW_IMG.exe from this page, Run that file to extract files - http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/555/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=63KCR&fileId=3287900763&osCode=WS8R2&productCode=poweredge-r710&languageCode=EN&categoryId=ES

Or if you need to step up, this is 1.8 - http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/555/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=5XJ40&fileId=2789070077&osCode=WS8R2&productCode=poweredge-r710&languageCode=EN&categoryId=ES

Access the iDrac web interface and then go to Drac Settings - Update - and upload and run the file with the .D6 extension from the files you extracted.

Will it update that way?

The last time I tried that, it would get to 30% then it would say failed.  If I logged off the iDRAC website, and logged back in, then going to the update section, it would show a firmware is in progress.

I'm not able to attempt it today, but I will update the information when I can.

Thanks again for your help.

I tried it again today, and it uploads the file, then I am given the option to update.  When I click to update, it gets to 30% then freezes for a short bit, and then updates with Failed.

I'm not sure what's causing it.  I just tried to install it after a complete power down and flea power drain.

Does the iDRAC need to be in dedicated instead of shared?

Thanks for your help!

Kviper97,

In regards to the Shared or Dedicated, if you have the iDrac Express then you need to have it set to Shared, if you have an iDrac Enterprise you would select Dedicated. The Shared and Dedicated are referring to the LAN settings for the iDrac. Shared is sharing NIC 1 with the iDrac. Dedicated is the port with the Wrench on it, normally on the card. You can only select dedicated with the Enterprise installed though.

The other thing I would check is the version of the Lifecycle controller, if it is grossly out of date as well it can hang up the Drac update.

Here is the latest LC update - http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/555/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=F7XJ1&fileId=3363473258&osCode=WS8R2&productCode=poweredge-r710&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SV

If there is any issues with the LC then this is a repair package for it. - http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/555/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverId=G3G5F&fileId=3236092761&osCode=WS8R2&productCode=poweredge-r710&languageCode=EN&categoryId=SV

Let me know if that allows the fw update to proceed.

Any other suggestions on getting the iDRAC updated?  Would the BIOS version of the other R710 impact the ability to update the iDRAC?

The BIOS for the R710 is on 1.1.4 (which I was going to update until the issue came up that started this post).

I've tried most all of the different versions of iDRAC firmwares.  I've tried running the DUP in windows.  I've even tried the server build and update utility, but it says the firmware repository is in the wrong format.  I created a USB drive from the Dell Repository Manager, but it doesn't like the format.

Any ideas on how to use that method to update the iDRAC (if it's possible)?  Are there any other avenues to try and update it?

I really do appreciate all your help!

So, upon running the LC update, it stated that there was no LC installed.  So, I ran and successfully installed the LC update.

Tried again to update iDRAC using windows package and website, and it failed again.  (Powered off, drained flea power etc)

Booted into USC to try, and it's attempting to download it from the Dell FTP (I knew it was slow, but holy smokes it's slow).

Just wanted to post a progress update.

Thanks!

Ok, finally got the iDRAC updated to 1.96 using the USC with a USB DUP created from the repository manager.

We swapped the iDRAC express card into the original server that had the BIOS update installed.

The iDRAC powers on when system power is applied, and I configured an IP, but am unable to reach the iDRAC via web.

The server still won't post, with nothing showing on the screen (doesn't even get to configuring memory).

Any other suggestions?

did u find the solution for this? I am having the same issue. I updated iDARC to ver 1.96 which didn't require a reboot, everything was working fine. Then I updated the BIOS from 6.3 to 6.4 and it required a reboot which I did and since then server hasn't booted up.  there is no POST screen or any display as a matter of fact.
